SHE PASSED THIS WAY, by ANNA M. ACKERMANN First Line: She passed this way with torch in hand Last Line: She passed this way? | |||
She passed this way with torch in hand, Her heritage from distant land, With footstep firm, and face aglow To guide the way, long years ago, For those who now are in command. Stone temples on gold pavement stand Instead of tents on shifting sand Because, with radiant light to show, She passed this way. Will they keep faith who guard her brand And vigil through dark night demand? On scions of her race bestow The light undimmed by winds that blow So men through aeons understand She passed this way? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A MINOR POET by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET DEAR OLD DICK by EDGAR LEE MASTERS IN 'DESIGNING A CLOAK TO CLOAK HIS DESIGNS' YOU WRESTED FROM OBLIVION by MARIANNE MOORE ON SIR PALMES FAIRBORNE'S TOMB, IN WESTERMINSTER ABBEY by JOHN DRYDEN THE MASTER-PLAYER by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR RAIN IN SUMMER by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW |
