LIFE'S LITTLE DAY, by MARY BALL ARMSTRONG First Line: Over the misty hills at evening time Last Line: Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | |||
Over the misty hills at evening-time, In level light, a golden stillness falls; Out of the reeds beside the sleeping stream Tremulous, faint, a wandering night-bird calls. The flaming red of morning led to this; Ended in this, the threatening, stormy sky; It was for this, the long hours' heat and strife, Coolness, and quiet, and a lonely cry. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUSE'S LULLABY by PALMER COX SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: SETH COMPTON by EDGAR LEE MASTERS ON LAYING THE CORNER-STONE OF THE BUNKER HILL MOMUMENT by JOHN PIERPONT SONNETS OF MANHOOD: SONNET 25.
