PAR, by CLIFTON E. BLAKE First Line: I took my sin to market Last Line: They trembled when I passed. | |||
I took my sin to market And led it through the town; The people flocked about me, And didn't even frown: They paid me money down. I took my love to market And cried it on the square; The people came to see it And called it pretty ware: They bade me keep it there. I took my soul to market. The people stood aghast; They ran into their houses And locked the shutters fast: They trembled when I passed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CAVALIER TUNES: BOOT AND SADDLE by ROBERT BROWNING A PAINTED FAN by LOUISE CHANDLER MOULTON ON THE SOUL by PUBLIUS AELIUS HADRIANUS WOMAN AND ARTIST by ALICE WILLIAMS BROTHERTON OCTOBER by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT THE MARCHING FEET by MAXWELL STRUTHERS BURT |
