THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, by FLORENCE ESTELLE BRYANT First Line: Proudly she rears her head on high Last Line: And look in disdain on the old queen's bier! | |||
Proudly she rears her head on high, Stretching her arms into the sky. Fleecy clouds have veiled her eyes From dazzling sunbeams, as daylight dies. The strong wind holds her in his embrace, And boldly strives to uncover her face. In quiet aloofness she towers above Discarded remains of the city's love. Tomorrow, perhaps, a new bride will appear, And look in disdain on the old queen's bier! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE COAT OF FIRE by EDITH SITWELL LOUIS XV by JOHN STERLING (1806-1844) TO S.M., A YOUNG AFRICAN PAINTER, ON SEEING HIS WORKS by PHILLIS WHEATLEY APOLLO AND DAPHNE by PHILIP AYRES THE SEVEN WORDS by GEORGE WILLARD BONTE SAVAGES by ABBIE FARWELL BROWN THE SHEPHERD'S PIPE: SECOND ECLOGUE by WILLIAM BROWNE (1591-1643) |
