TWILIGHT HOUR, by MARIE CAPPICK First Line: In the purple hush of the twilight hour Last Line: And find the strength I ask to meet the day. Subject(s): Evening; Sunset; Twilight | |||
In the purple hush of the twilight hour I enter a cathedral, old and gray, And there beneath its ivy covered tower, I kneel to pray for strength to meet the day. I hear the organ's echoes rise and flow From shadowed nave to lighted altar place -- I gaze upon the tapers' amber glow While thoughts are drifting idly into space. But let me pause at a small wayside shrine Beneath the spreading dome of leafy tree, Where echoes of the homeward loving kine Come on the tranquil evening air to me. There near a weathered cross I kneel to pray And find the strength I ask to meet the day. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...JOURNEY INTO THE EYE by DAVID LEHMAN FEBRUARY EVENING IN NEW YORK by DENISE LEVERTOV THE HOUSE OF DUST: 1 by CONRAD AIKEN TWILIGHT COMES by HAYDEN CARRUTH IN THE EVENINGS by LUCILLE CLIFTON NINETEEN FORTY by NORMAN DUBIE THE RETURN (2) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON TO THE AUTHOR OF 'THE ROBBERS' (SCHILLER) by SAMUEL TAYLOR COLERIDGE |
