NOVEMBER TREE, by MARY CAROTHERS DILL First Line: There is magnificence in one gaunt tree Last Line: (a weathered strength is beauty, too, it seems!) Subject(s): Seasons; Trees | |||
There is magnificence in one gaunt tree That late November storms have weathered bare -- (A form that wears its starkness gallantly!) In Spring, soft fairy buds enchant the air And cradle on the tree's rough arms to flower -- (For only strength has gentleness to spare!) Gay summer clothes the tree in gorgeous shower Of pendants like great emeralds that gleam -- (So loveliness may cover hidden power!) November storms now ruin Summer's dreams -- (A weathered strength is Beauty, too, it seems!) | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PROBLEM OF DESCRIBING TREES by ROBERT HASS THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MIDNIGHT EDEN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN REFLECTION OF THE WOOD by LEONIE ADAMS THE LIFE OF TREES by DORIANNE LAUX SONG FOR THE LUDDITES by GEORGE GORDON BYRON |
