GIVE THANKS FOR RAIN, by HILDEGARDE FRIED DREPS First Line: Give thanks for rain when clouds extend Last Line: Give thanks for rain. Subject(s): Nature; Rain; Weather | |||
Give thanks for rain when clouds extend Their liquid streams which interblend With rainbow hues that glorify The thirsty land and arching sky, When silver sprays of wealth descend. No greater gifts to earth transcend The showers that the heavens lend. When manna falls to soothe our cry, Give thanks for rain. Let grasses and the trees pretend Their famished leaves can comprehend That tear-drops flow from heaven's eye. When night winds croon a lullaby And years of drought approach an end, Give thanks for rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD HOW TO FORETELL A CHANGE IN THE WEATHER by TED KOOSER LEAVING BUFFALO by CHARLES MARTIN WHEN THE WEATHER CHANGES TO WARM, THE BOYS DRIVE SHIRTLESS by MARY JO BANG THE LIFE OF TOWNS: ONE-MAN TOWN by ANNE CARSON POWER FAILURE by MADELINE DEFREES THE CITY OF THE OLESHA FRUIT by NORMAN DUBIE FRAGMENTS WRITTEN WHILE TRAVELING...A MIDWESTERN HEAT WAVE by JAMES GALVIN STUDY IN STILL LIFE by HILDEGARDE FRIED DREPS |
