LATE SUMMER, by JOHN DRINKWATER Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Though summer long delayeth Last Line: The king-bird keeps the tide. | |||
THOUGH summer long delayeth Her blue and golden boon, Yet now at length she stayeth Her wings above the noon; She sets the waters dreaming To murmurous leafy tones, The weeded waters gleaming Above the stepping-stones. Where fern and ivied willow Lean o'er the seaward brook, I read a volume mellow -- A poet's fairy-book; The seaward brook is narrow, The hazel spans its pride, And like a painted arrow The king-bird keeps the tide. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MOONLIT APPLES by JOHN DRINKWATER 1914-1918: THE DEAD SPEAK by JOHN DRINKWATER A CHRISTMAS NIGHT by JOHN DRINKWATER A DEDICATION by JOHN DRINKWATER A GHOST SPEAKS ON THE STYX by JOHN DRINKWATER A MAN'S DAUGHTER by JOHN DRINKWATER |
