WORLD-WINTER, by LAURA BELL EVERETT First Line: Wandering on yestereen Last Line: Of lasting peace? Subject(s): Peace; Social Protest; War | |||
Wandering on yestereen Through the woods in autumn flush, I saw gold that had been green, Stood before the Burning Bush. Lost In frost Of a single night Is my altar's garnishing; Yet I know Through storm and snow Comes the spring. Years joined years when nations met With no battle-flags unfurled, When, despite distrust and fret, War seemed banished from the world; Then For men A single day Goodwill lost Brought holocaust. When shall this world-winter cease? When bloom the May Of lasting peace? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...I AM YOUR WAITER TONIGHT AND MY NAME IS DIMITRI by ROBERT HASS MITRAILLIATRICE by ERNEST HEMINGWAY RIPARTO D'ASSALTO by ERNEST HEMINGWAY WAR VOYEURS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL THE SURVIVOR AMONG GRAVES by RANDALL JARRELL SO MANY BLOOD-LAKES by ROBINSON JEFFERS DEATH-GRAPPLE by LAURA BELL EVERETT |
