INTERLUDE, by MARGARET FERRELL First Line: All night long I lay and thought on thee Last Line: The blue of all eternity was shown. Subject(s): Regret | |||
All night long I lay and thought on thee. Until at last when came the morning sun I knew that what had been was past, and one By one the years would leave their mark on me, And men would come and go, and ennui Would follow on regret when love was done; A weariness when what was sought was won, The timeless, oft-repeated trilogy. But I should never live to know again The sweet and lovely thing I once had known, That time we wandered in a country lane, And branches of life's tree were gently blown Aside, and in one glimpse too brief for pain The blue of all eternity was shown. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DEEP SORRINESS ATONEMENT SONG by GLYN MAXWELL MINOR MIRACLE by MARILYN NELSON A RENUNCIATION OF THE DESERT PRIMROSE; FOR J.
