THE FUGITIVE, by DORA HAGEMEYER First Line: For love of you a song went down the wind Last Line: The fugitive was singing in my breast. | |||
For love of you a song went down the wind. I followed with the net of my despair. Delayed by eagerness, my pace was thinned Till I forsook the race and left it there. I lay me down upon a slope of grass -- The sunlight scattered me with seeds of sleep. I let the hour, I let the morning pass . . . So glad the shining paths of dream to keep. I wandered in a world of silver sound That seemed to be the music of your name; The shadow of the earth was turned around And showed its lovely counterpart of flame. When I awoke, (I need not write the rest) The fugitive was singing in my breast. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...INCOMING TIDE by DORA HAGEMEYER SONNET FROM JAPAN: 2.
