THE BOND, by JO HARTMAN First Line: Bedizened, roughed, with henna-streaked scant tresses Last Line: The gigolo alone broke down and cried. Subject(s): Love - Loss Of; Relationships | |||
Bedizened, roughed, with henna-streaked scant tresses Whose gray roots peered out garishly between; Emaciated flesh, lips that caresses Would ill become -- her dear friends long had seen It was her money only so entrancing The gigolo with deep, mysterious eyes... He'd smile across at her while he was dancing With sweet young things all zest and thrills and sighs! She understood his heart, his baffled yearnings For big and manly deeds, achievements bold -- He hated his slim beauty and the earnings Slipped in his purse by hands he had to hold: He loved her restful ways, and when she died The gigolo alone broke down and cried. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AMERICAN WEDDING by ESSEX HEMPHILL PUNK HALF PANTHER by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA LET US GATHER IN A FLOURISHING WAY by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DIFFERENCE by RICHARD HOWARD THE ADVANCE OF THE FATHER by FANNY HOWE |
