When Hugh and Bess saw Mother come Out of the kitchen they knew that some Cakes had been hidden out of sight. For their noses told them quite A wonderful tale as they tiptoed in. After a moment cheeks and chin Were covered with a sticky paste, And the children in their haste Forgot the time, the rules, the place! Then in a mirror, behold, -- a face! They gasped and almost choked, for there Stood Mother by the kitchen chair! Sadly, she surveyed her Hugh. "I didn't think it was in you!"
