FUHRER, by DIANA JAMES First Line: The dead are holy ones and when men die Last Line: But say he was a man who broke the world. Subject(s): Evil; Hitler, Adolf (1889-1945); Sin | |||
The dead are holy ones and when men die We reverently hold their memory by The sweetest things That lent their presence wings And bound them to us ever tenderly. And when the giant men, the god-like men, Each labelled with a miniature of sin By those who stand And twist an empty hand Pass on, they shine in purity again. Long lies the hammer of the will to wound Hushed deep, and evil only twines around Within its shade. And grace is like a blade That is not pure except its power be found. But when in darkness like a comet whirled He dies, no tenderness be there unfurled; None shall make dim The blood-red light of him But say he was a man who broke the world. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEVEN STREAMS OF NEVIS by GALWAY KINNELL CHANEL NO. 5 by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR BROTHERS: 4.
