AMERICA'S PEACE CRY, by HEPHZIBAH ELIZABETH SPENCER KENDRICK First Line: O lord god of hosts, give ear to our prayer Last Line: To the glorious dawn, of the world's peace day! Subject(s): Peace; Prayer | |||
O Lord God of hosts, give ear to our prayer, For nations in life's maze of tumult and care! O bid Thou the turmoil and chaos to cease, And bless the war-world with abiding Peace! As shadows of darkness and danger appear, Dear Father our God, oh, hasten to hear! Grant mists and gray clouds unveil in Thy love The fair angel of Peace, from the Father above. Lord, we look unto Thee, Thy mercy implore, Entreat the door to Peace be barred nevermore! For thou holdest the key in Thy bosom above, Where the peace-flower opens in brotherhood love. Grant the world-wide powers groping through night, Awake and behold the great day-star of light! Shining in radiance, and guiding the way To the glorious dawn, of the world's Peace day! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS WE WHO PRAYED AND WEPT by WENDELL BERRY PRAYERS AND SAYINGS OF THE MAD FARMER by WENDELL BERRY SELF-REJECTED by JEAN STARR UNTERMEYER |
