PERFECT PATTERN, by IDA L. PADELFORD First Line: How strange the ways of life react on man Last Line: And never longs to hear a newer call? | |||
How strange the ways of life react on man, That out of thousands one is set apart To cool a fevered brow and darkness span Until the dawn arrives to brave his heart. Though passion's cry has waned it does not spurn. Whoever comes to stir the ashen fire A certain warmth reflected will discern, But there is no one left who can acquire. It is the way of life, of Nature's scheme, That man should seek a chosen one and find, A perfect pattern yields to godly dream Of Oneness, healing rest and quiet mind. Can that be why my love for you is all, And never longs to hear a newer call? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...QUIET WORK; SONNET by MATTHEW ARNOLD THE SCRIBE by WALTER JOHN DE LA MARE THE WISTFUL DAYS by ROBERT UNDERWOOD JOHNSON AN ESSAY ON MAN by ALEXANDER POPE MINIVER CHEEVY by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON SONNET PREFIXED TO 'THE COMMONWEALTH & GOVERNMENT OF VENICE' by EDMUND SPENSER |
