PASTORAL, by NEVILLE PEACE First Line: Remember the naked boys you saw from the train window? Last Line: You probably saw us from the train window. Subject(s): Boys; Swimming & Swimmers | |||
Remember the naked boys you saw from the train window? You know the place -- there where some tall cottonwoods And a little creek not important enough to have a name. We used to go there in the summer, Down through the pasture and under the railroad trestle, Above the pool there was an old hackberry tree That was ruined by the woodpeckers. They've probably eaten the whole tree by now. We used to stand on the rocks and wave at the passengers And die laughing... You probably saw us from the train window. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...NOW THE CHILDREN ARE OLD ENOUGH by ANDREW MOTION STARING AT THE PACIFIC, AND SWIMMING IN IT by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER THE SWIMMER by JOHN CROWE RANSOM STILL ON WATER by KENNETH REXROTH |
