HER GARDEN, by RUBY BRANSFORD PEARCE First Line: God made for her a garden Last Line: In the lives of those she taught. Subject(s): Gardens & Gardening; God | |||
God made for her a garden, And gave to her gentle care All of the lovely flowers That He had planted there. The flowers grew and flourished, Her garden was fair to see, And never were blossoms tended With more love and loyalty. She guarded them and shielded them From the wintry wind that blows; She cherished the modest violet As she did the stately rose. The fragrance of her flowers Was scattered far and wide, Beyond the walls of her garden Through all the countryside. The perfume from their blossoms Spread happiness and cheer; Their color carried sunshine To places dull and drear. But ere life's summer was over And autumn's chill had come, God left her garden untended And called His gardener home. Her flowers neither stop their blooming Nor cease their fragrance to shed, For when she worked in her garden 'Twas by His hand she was led. Her spirit still lives among them In the deeds of good she wrought -- In the garden that God gave her -- In the lives of those she taught. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE MOUNTAIN IS STRIPPED by DAVID IGNATOW AS CLOSE AS BREATHING by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 1 by MARK JARMAN UNHOLY SONNET 13 by MARK JARMAN BIRTH-DUES by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE SILENT SHEPHERDS by ROBINSON JEFFERS GOING TO THE HORSE FLATS by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE CITY REVISITED by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGUESE: 32 by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING DON JUAN: DEDICATION [OR, INVOCATION] by GEORGE GORDON BYRON |
