PINE TREES ON THE MOUNTAIN, by ROSE CRAWFORD PHILLIPS First Line: Silence and solitude, and a dove's low call Last Line: Pine trees of the mountains... Looking up to god! Subject(s): Pine Trees; Trees; Worship | |||
Silence and solitude, and a dove's low call; Deep the purple stillness, brooding over all. Coral-tinted clouds -- over mountain bending; To her nest on its crest, eagle ascending. Silence and solitude, and winding trails From the long distance, coyotes' lonely wails. A bent, old prospector, trudging over the track, Followed by his burro, loaded with a pack. Trudging on with swinging canteen in his hand -- Sleep comes sweet and dreamless -- on a bed of sand. Purple sage and cactus; creatures wild and small -- Pure white light of desert-stars -- gleaming over all. Rocky cliffs -- and caverns human foot never trod -- Pine trees of the mountains... looking up to God! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...COMPANIONSHIP by MALTBIE DAVENPORT BABCOCK FOR I WILL CONSIDER YOUR DOG MOLLY by DAVID LEHMAN RUSSIAN CATHEDRAL by CLAUDE MCKAY LITTLE WHITE CHURCH by MARILYN NELSON A STEEPLE ON THE HOUSE by ROBERT FROST MATE (1) by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON ANSWER TO PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS by GEORGE SANTAYANA MADEIRA FROM THE SEA by SARA TEASDALE |
