FERVENT HOUR, by LUTHER LAURENCE DOWRICK PRATT First Line: A sacrificial glow Last Line: An ecstasy of fire. Alternate Author Name(s): Pratt, Laurence | |||
A sacrificial glow Transforms the harvest's yield; Slow inward fires consume The brown grass of the field. The breathing cedars lift Warm incense in the sun; And through the leafy copses Crimson blushes run As ripe trees acquiesce To the searing-sweet embrace Of sultry autumn winds -- Priests of a pagan race. The god of autumn laughs, The flush of leaves mounts higher, Till every bush is bright -- An ecstasy of fire. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WOOD MILL by LUTHER LAURENCE DOWRICK PRATT THE MOUSE by ELIZABETH JANE COATSWORTH SANTORIN (A LEGEND OF THE AEGEAN) by JAMES ELROY FLECKER THE CAPTAINS OF THE YEARS by ARTHUR RAYMOND MACDOUGALL JR.
