A FLORIDA AWAKENING, by LYNN RUSSELL First Line: The pale-green candles on the pines Last Line: The heavens fain would hold! | |||
The pale-green candles on the pines Look upward at the sky As if to fathom the designs Of powers from on high. The honeysuckle vines swing out To catch the perfumed breeze And wind their tendrils all about The chinaberry trees. And everywhere I wander down The highways, streets and lanes I see the flutter of a gown Along the widespread plains -- Once more I know that Spring is here, Her dress of green and gold For all the earth portrays the cheer The heavens fain would hold! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EASTER by WILLIAM HENRY DAVIES JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY (FROM A WESTERNER'S POINT OF VIEW) by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR THE SLEEPY SONG by JOSEPHINE DODGE DASKAM BACON EN TOUR; A SONG SEQUENCE: 4.
