A HEART SONG, by ELIZABETH RIAL SARGENT First Line: On my ear there fell a cry of hate! Last Line: A mother's heart was singing to its child. Subject(s): Mothers; Singing & Singers | |||
On my ear there fell a cry of hate! And it filled my soul with gloom, For torture seemed to be part of it -- and despair. But ere the gloom possessed me wholly -- quite, I heard a Mother singing to her child. All the gates of Heaven seemed to open wide As the song burst forth upon the air; It breathed of love, of love Divine! A Mother's heart was singing to its Child. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY RECESSIONAL by RUDYARD KIPLING THE CASE OF DOMINEERING JOHN ALEXIS UPHAM by FRANKLIN PIERCE ADAMS |
