THE SPANISH ARMADA, by JOHN STILL Poet's Biography First Line: From merciless invaders Last Line: We'll hounde him back to hell. Subject(s): Spanish Armada | |||
FROM mercilesse invaders, From wicked men's device, O God! arise and helpe us, To quele owre enemies. Sinke deepe their potent navies, Their strength and corage breake, O God! arise and arm us, For Jesus Christ, his sake. Though cruel Spain and Parma With heathene legions come, O God! arise and arm us, We'll dye for owre home! We will not change our Credo For Pope, nor boke, nor bell; And yf the Devil come himself, We'll hounde him back to hell. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...KING PHILIP'S MEN by AUDREY ALEXANDRA BROWN A BALLAD TO QUEEN ELIZABETH (OF THE SPANISH ARMADA) by HENRY AUSTIN DOBSON ADMIRAL HOSIER'S GHOST by RICHARD GLOVER THE INVINCIBLE ARMADA, 1588 by LEWIS MORRIS (1833-1907) THE SPANISH ARMADA by ROBERT SOUTHEY QUEEN ELIZABETH by CHARLES TENNYSON TURNER THE SPANISH ARMADA by ANONYMOUS QUESTION OF TIME by ANTONIO CISNEROS JOYFUL NEW BALLAD by THOMAS DELONEY SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: ALONZO CHURCHILL by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
