THE ROENTGENOLOGIST (TO DR. A.B. SMITH), by ELEANOR VAN WINKLE First Line: The roentgenologist has wondrous powers Last Line: While with invisibility he cures! Subject(s): Radiology | |||
The roentgenologist has wondrous powers; A thaumaturgist to the invalid, From him no secrets of the bones are hid; He looks directly where the fracture cowers. Where pathologic plants bear evil flowers Or where, not active now, they lately did, He sees, and pours the healing ray amid Their ravages. (The lurking Reaper lowers.) He seems more like a god than other men Because he sees what only God has seen; And also that the occult (to his ken Discovered by his marvellous machine) He treats with sympathy, and long endures, While with invisibility he cures! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE WATERWHEEL by ELEANOR VAN WINKLE SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: WASHINGTON MCNEELY by EDGAR LEE MASTERS IF IT WERE NOT FOR YOU by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE SONG OF HIAWATHA: HIAWATHA'S WOOING by HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW MY GARDEN by KATHARINE CANBY BALDERSTON SONG OF OWL'S HEAD by NORMAN WILLIAMS BINGHAM |
