Bury me not too deep When I am dead, Too far away from friendly grass And soft footfalls of wild things, Too far from echoes of your laughter. Think not of me as dead, For I shall only sleep Until next springtime comes. Then gentle rain caressing buds Shall be my fingers prying wide my eyes, And swaying long blue grass My bosom swelling with the life of living things. The first mayflower Shall be my lips lifted unto thine, The low blue violet My modesty in this new life, The fresh fragrance of all spring Shall be my thoughts for you. And I shall give new birth to many living things, And wind and sun shall beat upon me And fling me farand fling me yet again And I shall be as life to you I shall be one with living things. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND |
